Why all the 'extra' sheaves in the machine room?
This is a 6,000 pound (2722 kg) capacity goods elevator that is roped 4:1!
I have seen a few 3:1 roped-hydraulic private residence elevators and a couple of
4:1 roped-hydraulic vertical reciprocating conveyors but nothing like this on an elevator.

Paul Hill sent me this image of his friend Andrew Wing.
They both work for Schindler in Australia...but the picture was taken in the United Kingdom.
"The actual meaning of 'under no circumstances is this lift to be hand punched' is not to push
the main contactors in manually as this will damage the drive unit and possibly yourself!"

Deadwood Dick's Saloon and Gaming Hall in Deadwood, South Dakota, U.S.A.
We are looking up between the car and hoistway doors at the crosshead.
There appears to be quite a lot of manila rope up there as well...why?
Check-out the larger image...could this have something to do with the safety device?

Mobile escalators created exclusively for the Royal Family in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia
It appears as if the first section of steps is in fact stationary...
not enough room at the tarmac for a step turnaround.
